What Is Ramadan?
Ramadan is a month in the Islamic calendar. Ramadan is when we fast for one month. The Arabic word for it is Sawm. We cannot eat from Fajr to Maghrib. There is this special salaah that we pray after Isha ( the last daily prayer ) called Terawih. We wake up to have Suhr, also known as Sehri and there is this other special prayer called Tajjud. Normally, it is good to eat dates because they reduce headaches and they give us lots of energy that we need. After the Maghrib Adhan, we eat dates, fruits and drink water or milk.
How Did Fasting Become A ‘Thing’?
As some of us already know, the month of Ramadan is when our Holy Quran came down to us. Allah said to Prophet Muhammad SAW to fast for one year. He refused and begged for shorter time since we would starve to death. So Allah lowered it down to 6 months ( half a year ) and still our Prophet SAW begged for shorter, so then it was 3 months. Still He wanted shorter time so at last it was 1 month!
